The Last Resort, Dhulikhel y Kathmandu en Nepal.
We went to Tibet in November and stayed at hotels in Lhasa & Shigatse. We were warned that the hotel in Tingri wouldn't be quite as nice. A little vague, but it turns out that hotels in Tingri don't have running water in December. Apparently the pipes aren't insulated and they don't want the pipes to freeze and burst. We were given a couple of water buckets to fill the toilet tank so we could flush the toilet. A small favor.
The room was nothing special. Beds and sheets seemed clean. The heater worked most of the night. The food was actually pretty good in their restaurant. We ended up having a candlelight breakfast as the power went out when we were eating. The lights were also off in the room as we headed to Everest, luckily we had everything packed.
It´s a simple hotel, with the room's entry to the outside (like a motel).
The rooms are not clean: full of dust, the sheets are not clean and the white towels are dark. The cold and hot water mixing doesn´t work so the shower is or hot burning or cold freezing.
I definitely do not recommed this hotel as the basic cleanliness doesn't exist!
there are not many options in Tingri.
We visited in April 2011 and were a bit surprised to see there was no heating, even though it could be as cold as -7C at night. The hotel provided some electric blankets so that helped a lot, though the single-glazed windows don't help much.
Quite soon after nightfall the best option is to wrap up and go to bed. You have to run the hot tap for about 10 minutes before warm water flows. It is a terrible waste of water but essential for hygiene. No internet, basic tv, cold... the only option is go to bed early in anticipation of you likely visit to Mount Everest.
I wouldn't complain too much about this hotel as Tingri is a real one-horse town with very limited facilities. You only pass through Tingri, never stay there. so the hotels reflect this.
